Bride price should be abolished

I think the payment of bride price is an ancient custom which should be abolished. It is similar to selling a girl to her husband and I am sure it is one of the reasons why men treat their wives badly. Also it has been turned into a business venture where the groom is asked to pay exorbitant fees. What say you..

Well, it all depends on the customs in question and maybe religious climates. In Islam for instance the bride price is a gift given to the bride herself. In some parts of Africa, the parents receive this money and it's a lot. If you wanna abolish bride price, it's simple: either ask for none or ask your parents to ask for none. Finito, lol

well said but I think the poster was referring to the abuse of the bride price (turning it into a commercial venture)

My point still. The only people who can abolish it are the people demand it and to a lesser extent, the people who offer it
